OVERVIEW :: THE YOUNG LAWYERS CONFERENCE 2011- AN INITIATIVE OF THE LAW EVENT LIMITED
The practice of law in Nigeria and indeed globally has become more challenging and competitive and thus the role of the young lawyer cannot be under-estimated, which then necessitates providing a platform beyond the class room for proper grooming and enlightenment of the young lawyer to compete favorably with peers from all over the world.
It is for this principal reason that the idea of the “Young Lawyers Conference (YLC)” was conceptualized. The aim of the conference is to create a constructive and meaningful avenue for young lawyers to feel a sense of belonging within the legal profession in Nigeria, enable them to interact with one another, give them access to local and international mentors as well as to enable those in need of such to have access to potential employers.
The YLC was created to bring young lawyers together to discuss issues affecting them within the legal profession and proffer solutions to them. The conference is aimed at helping young lawyers develop the skill and capacity to ensure they remain relevant in the modern day practice.
This arose as a result of some thousands of young wigs whom several years after being called to the bar are still unable to find their feet in the law profession. They are unable to find their path in the quest for accomplishment in the practice of law. The young lawyers after looking for mentors in the legal profession are unable to find any.
The Conference gives an opportunity to the young wigs to achieve their aim of being mentored by bringing accomplished senior lawyers, partners of law firms and corporate business lawyers to speak to them and interact with them giving them their expectations and the tips and secrets of having a successful law practice.
It also provides a means for the young lawyers to be mentored by the senior lawyers and also network with them.
It aims at teaching them the right practice of law to ensure brighter future
